Luigi's Mansion 2: Blinded by Secrecy, Now Reimagined in HD

Can you believe it? The development team for Luigi's Mansion 2 didn't know what platform the game would be running on during development?

In the latest episode of the DidYouKnowGaming video program, artists Gary Shaw and Marc Brassard shared a captivating story about the development of "Luigi's Mansion 2." They revealed that Nintendo's strict confidentiality measures led them to mistakenly believe that the game's target platform was the NDS (Nintendo DS).


According to their recollection, a pivotal moment occurred when the development team flew to Japan, and Satoru Iwata personally introduced them to the 3DS. Following that, the development team for "Luigi's Mansion 2" continued to expand, but Nintendo imposed stringent secrecy requirements. Developers had to work in an isolated secret room and sign numerous confidentiality agreements.


 

At that time, the game's developer, Next Level Games, was not yet a part of Nintendo, posing a potential risk of leaks. It wasn't until 2021, after the completion of "Luigi's Mansion 3," that Nintendo announced the acquisition of all the company's shares.

In June 2023, Nintendo announced plans to release a high-definition version of "Luigi's Mansion 2" for the Nintendo Switch in 2024.




The remastered version's trailer showcases significant visual improvements, with characters and scenes rendered in exquisite detail. Furthermore, the game will introduce new elements, including new ghosts and items.


Originally released in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS, "Luigi's Mansion 2" serves as the sequel to the beloved "Luigi's Mansion." It received widespread acclaim and is regarded as one of the standout games on the Nintendo 3DS.
